LiveConference ProTM is a service that caters to the business world.  They do feel that educational institutions could benefit from using their services in long-distance education applications.  They also boast about not having hidden fees compared to other services, especially not charging the account holder a per/minute, per/user charge during a conference or presentation.
Once again for classroom use the fees are a factor, unless there is enough interest for the school to purchase an account.  Without needing to download upgrades to other programs, this may be an easier service to use, especially for novice users.

Now, that's more like it! I'm wondering if they would allow you to sign up for a month, drop it, and then sign up for another month later if you only wanted access occasionally?

I'm still thinking there are some awkward, but less expensive solutions, but if quality and reliability are important, these kinds of services are well worth the money.

It's an expensive solution for a school. On the other hand, if money is no object, it would be an excellent service for a school project.
